Black Aces DT-12: an 8.5″-Barreled 12 Gauge with no NFA Paperwork

Now here’s something you don’t see every day: a compact 12 gauge with an 8.5-inch barrel that doesn’t require a single page of NFA paperwork to buy. The GunsAmerica blog has a great writeup on the Black Aces DT, with a look at how and why this thing gets around the ATF’s short-barreled shotgun criteria:

Before I go any further, let me make this clear. This is not an NFA weapon. There is no stamp required. This gun is legal in the ATF’s eyes, but not every state feels the same. New York and California restrict the gun. The other 48 are good to go as long as you find an educated firearms dealer who is willing to transfer you the firearm. You may also want to carry a copy of the supplied ATF paperwork that comes with each gun in case you run into someone who is not convinced.

Yet again, gunmakers are forced to innovate their way around ill-informed and essentially random bans on cosmetic factors.

Daddy likes! I’m going to add this to the “purchase soon” list, in case it gets banned. This looks to be an even more ideal home defense weapon than my current fantasy, a suppressed SIG MCX in .300 Blackout.

All of the sudden, Silencerco’s Salvo 12 shotgun silencer looks a little less impractical, unless of course slapping the Salvo onto the end of this would change the weapon’s status under the NFA. Does anyone out there know if it would be legal to build a weapon based around a combo of the Black Aces DT and a Salvo? I’m all ears.
