Israel Turns to Civilian Gun Carriers for “Lone Wolf” Terrorist Protection

The Jerusalem Post reports that the official Israeli response to the increase in “lone wolf” terror attacks is about the same as the de facto American one: more guns in civilian hands.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan on Wednesday approved a number of measures to ease the requirements for firearm permits, as Israel copes with a wave of “lone wolf” terrorism.
“In recent weeks many citizens have helped the Israel Police subdue terrorists who carried out attacks,” he said.
“Citizens with firearms training are a multiplying force for the police in their fight against terrorism and therefore I will take measures to ease the restrictions at this time.”
There has been a marked shift in domestic concealed carry circles post-Paris and post-San Bernardino towards people tooling up for the sake of the community (as opposed to just individual self-defense). I’ve seen a number of blog posts about it, and I’d like to write about this more when I have some time. I think this mindset change is one of the most important developments in the gun scene in the past few years.
