DAISY INTRODUCES ADULT RED RYDER
Just above my office desk as I write this sits a Daisy Red Ryder BB-gun. This model is the 75th anniversary version as stamped on the buttstock 1940-2015. I bought this air rifle because it is legendary, also so stamped on the stock “True Legends Live Forever.” I remember my own childhood Daisy that I shot so much, the leather gaskets wore out.
My new Daisy is the standard model, which in fact does have a rather short length of pull due to the very short buttstock. This stock of course was designed for kids to shoot. Adults can shoot it fine, but it is a bit cramped and lining up the sights is a bit of a challenge with everything being compact. Still it is a true Daisy.
For Daisy to announce the introduction of an adult sized model of the Daisy Red Ryder is remarkable. Apparently there has been a long time interest among consumers for Daisy to produce a Red Ryder version with adult dimensions. I mean, heck, adult BB gun shooters want to fully enjoy shooting their own air rifle appropriately sized to fit adults comfortably.
The specifications for this new Daisy rifle includes a total weight of 2.95 pounds or very light for carry and shooting. The action is the classic lever action type with a spring air operation. The sights include a blade and ramp front sight with an adjustable open rear sight. This Daisy has a crossbolt trigger block safety, which provides a safety measure also teachable for older youth or teens to learn shooting basics.
The adult Daisy Red Ryder uses standard .177 caliber (4.5mm) BBs that with full spring tension cocking produces a muzzle velocity of 350 feet per second. The overall length of this air rifle is 36.75 inches, a good length to represent a more full sized rifle.
The stock and forearm sections are stained solid hardwood with a walnut looking finish. The barrel is steel, smooth bore and finished in a classic blue. The receiver is a stamped metal fabrication with the classic western style saddle ring including a leather thong.
The BB capacity of the under barrel tube magazine is 650 BB shot. Daisy estimates that the BBs shooting from the Red Ryder can reach a distance of 195 yards. As you can see, this new Daisy or any modern air rifle is not a kid’s toy. These are serious shooting BB rifles and should be a ton of fun to shoot. Check it out at www.daisy.com. Suggested price from Daisy is $69.99.
