As much as it seems 2020 has been a proverbial dumpster fire on wheels some good things have come of it. One is an online product for gun owners I recently discovered. It’s called ShotTrackers, and it’s an easy, one-stop repository for all your gun, ammo, and training records.
The creator of ShotTrackers is Chris Ung, a self-described IT guy and shooting enthusiast, from Irvine, California. What was idle time for some during COVID lockdowns wasn’t idle for Ung. He used it to bring to life a very useful concept. Why not have an online, password-protected spot to store all the miscellany related to gun ownership and training?
Thanks to some free time and a creative mind, ShotTrackers was born. His online product is an inviting and convenient way to end any excuse for disorganization of guns, gear, or records.

ShotTrackers can be used from a home computer or phone browser. With a membership, gun owners can keep track of a well-categorized assortment of information. Upload photos and purchase information about your firearms. Keep track of when they were last cleaned. Upload information about ammunition purchases, types, and costs. Save data from your favorite drills to track progress over time. That can include saving photos of targets for visual confirmation of training progress.
As for myself, ShotTrackers is proving a boon to organizing a pile of certifications, licenses, and continuing education documents that are individually important, but collectively a mess occupying my wallet and bookcase. The calendar feature of ShotTrackers is going to be helpful in reminding me when to update concealed carry, instructor, and other licenses. Though I’ve just started to upload PDFs of training certificates, I can tell it’s going to be a massive time-saver when it comes time to update my resume or re-apply for various licensures.
The visual layout of ShotTrackers is appealing and simple. It makes it easy for both visual and task-oriented organizers to have their way. Ung’s creation occupies a space in the industry where there’s a big need – the new gun owner/concealed carrier market; however, competitive shooters, hunters, and those who carry as part of their job should find it easy to use as well. Another advantage of the ShotTrackers system is theft or disaster recovery. Storing photographs, make/model, and the serial number of personal guns in the system makes submitting a police report or insurance claim the easy part of losing a gun.
There is nothing in the system that forces the user to record serial numbers or any private information they don’t wish to store in ShotTrackers. Security is built in with encryption applied at every stage of use. ShotTrackers is a bargain for self-storage of gun and gun-related information for individuals and families. Ung tells me an expansion of family-level recordkeeping, with names associated to individual guns, is a coming feature. An app is also in the pipeline.
