The Ruger MAX-9 will come as an iron-sight only or optics-ready version and will be compatible with a long list of red dot optics including the Crimson Trace 1500 series, Shield RMS series, Swampfox Sentinel, Holosun 407K and 507K, and the Sig Romeo Zero.
Ruger seems to have taken a close look at the concealed carry market and brought all the great features defensive pistol owners want right from the factory. The Ruger MAX-9 is not only available in its standard 12+1 manual safety configuration, but is also available in a “Pro-Model” version which is the same 12+1 configuration but also features a tritium fiber-optic sight and does away with the unnecessary (in my opinion) external manual safety. The best part about this is that both models are the same price.
I will be very interested to see how the Ruger MAX-9 stacks up against the other offerings in the micro-compact 9mm arena. It is so far, the least expensive option I have seen made available in this category. I have tried all of the current offerings on the market and own three of them and perhaps the Ruger MAX-9 will be my fourth purchase in this genre of pistols. After all, you can never have too many options when it comes to concealed carry pistols.
