Big Chopper: The NEW Cold Steel Hudson Bay Camp Axe
Nicolas Lenze 07.23.21
The right tool for the job is important. While I’m sure most of you are like me, often improvising and using what’s available, it’s not always wise. One thing that I especially want the right tool for is chopping wood. I’ve used various edged tools to accomplish this, but it’s so much work. A good camp axe and proper technique can have your wood split in no time. Cold Steel, a producer of quality blades, has reimagined the camp axe. This is the new Cold Steel Hudson Bay Camp Axe.
Cold Steel, manufacturer and innovator of purpose-built knives and blade tools for everyday carry, tactical, and hunting applications, is pleased to announce a modern interpretation of the iconic Hudson Bay axe. The Cold Steel Hudson Bay Camp Axe follows the centuries-old style with both subtle and significant design updates to improve performance and overall functionality.
The Cold Steel Hudson Bay Camp Axe
The Hudson Bay Camp Axe uses a 27″ long American hickory handle. The head weight is just under a pound and a half, and features a 4 1/8″ cutting edge. The blade is made from 1055 Carbon. Most impressive is the method of attaching the blade to the handle. They’re held together using two hex keys. If you were to break your handle in the field, replacing it with another piece of wood can theoretically be accomplished in minutes. With a design that dates back over 100 years, this axe would find itself right at home next to any wood pile.
