HEVI-Shot’s NEW HEVI-Hammer Bismuth-Steel Dove Loads

If you don’t keep up with shotguns, they can seem to be trapped in time, especially when it comes to ammunition. They’re just shells that sling a bunch of BBs with disregard, right? You’d be surprised. Advancements in shotgun ammunition are constant. Manufacturers continue to push for specific results, especially with hunting ammo, with impressive outcomes. New from HEVI-Shot, the HEVI-Hammer Bismuth-Steel Dove Loads mix advanced metals, increasing performance over lead projectiles.
“At HEVI-Shot, we have always been about innovation and density. Density is the secret sauce. It leads to tighter patterns, higher speeds, and more downrange devastation,” said Scott Turner, HEVI-Shot’s Product Line Manager. “Our customers spoke up and we listened. They wanted a highly effective product that was non-toxic to use in areas that restrict the use of lead.”

The addition to the HEVI-Hammer line uses 15% high-density bismuth and 85% steel. This mix of materials delivers almost 50% more energy than shells that use only steel projectiles. The shells are available in 3-inch 12- or 20-gauge, both utilizing No. 7 shot. Due to the increased density of the materials used, hunters can use smaller shot, which allows the shell to launch more pellets for a higher hit probability. The payload of the 12-gauge is one ounce and flies at 1,350 fps. The 20-gauge option has a total weight of 3/4 ounces and heads toward your target at 1,325 fps. While these metals give all hunters a clear advantage, they are also ideal for those hunting in areas that restrict the use of lead. These shells are nontoxic.
