POTD: An Excellent Bullpup Pistol – Boberg XR9-S

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have an extremely interesting bullpup but it is a pistol! This is a Boberg XR9-S which is a legitimate bullpup pistol featuring a rotating barrel which is not common by today’s standards. This idea came from Minnesota native Arne Boberg. After exiting an engineering job he went on tinkering with firearms design and the result was this line of bullpup pistols in both 9mm and 45 ACP. The design had to completely redo a lot of accepted pistol mechanics to accommodate the bullpup mechanism. As already stated it had a rotating barrel which is not all that common in handguns (the Steyr 1912 has a rotating barrel) and the magazine had to be reconfigured so everything worked backward. The cartridges are pulled backward out of the magazine and shoved forward into the chamber. The company was founded in 2009 and his first 9mm hit the market in 2011. The 45 was released in 2014 but these pistols were around the $1000 mark so they really did not appeal or sell all that well because of the price tag. Boberg would go on to sell the design in 2016 to Bond Arms which still makes and sells them today.
