Great White Shark Caught in Orange Beach Alabama

For years, you would hear fisherman say that Great White sharks do not venture into the Gulf, yet time and time again that is being proven false. A group of guides on the beach in Orange Beach, Alabama caught a healthy size Great white shark. This is a first for me hearing of one being caught on land and the video is a must-see.

The shark was caught by two shark fishing guides early on Monday, March 6, the news station reports. The guides and their clients thought they had caught a large tiger shark, which are common in the Gulf of Mexico.
“They’re relatively rare individuals, especially in this part of the world and especially from the beach,” Dr. Marcus Drymon with Mississippi State University, and a leading shark expert, told Fox 10. “This is a very rare event and maybe, if those guys continue to fish from the beach for the next several years and never catch another one like it.”
Great White sharks are a misunderstood animal, mostly due to Hollywood. Great White attacks on humans are exceedingly rare, they are more interested in finding a tasty fish or marine mammal to snack on, not you. They are not mindless murder fish as they are portrayed in movies. Yet they are still a massively powerful animal and should be respected. The level of respect given to the animal when caught is great to see in the video, I applaud them for documenting this catch and having the steadiness to safely release it back into the water.
