POTD: Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Colt SAA – Last Wild West Show Gun
Sam.S 06.10.25

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! This 1925 Colt Single Action Army represents the twilight of America’s Wild West show era, shipped directly to the legendary Miller Brothers 101 Ranch in Marland, Oklahoma, as part of a fourteen-gun order on March 7, 1925. The distinctive “101” markings stamped on both sides of the frame and backstrap permanently link this .45 Colt revolver to one of the most influential entertainment enterprises in American history. The Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Wild West Show was the spiritual successor to Buffalo Bill’s famous production, employing many former Buffalo Bill performers including Geronimo himself. Founded by the three Miller brothers—George Jr., Joe, and Zack—after their father’s death in 1903, the show toured America and Europe from 1907 until World War I forced a temporary halt in 1916.
This revolver’s 1925 shipment date coincides perfectly with the show’s revival after its nine-year wartime hiatus. The Miller Brothers were attempting to recapture the magic of their pre-war success, and this fourteen-gun order suggests they were serious about equipping their performers with authentic firearms for their renewed touring efforts. The accompanying leather holster and cartridge belt bearing “101 RANCH/REAL WILD WEST” markings and hand-stamped “BILL BYRNE” create a complete period ensemble. The beaded borders and tooled leather represent the theatrical Western aesthetic that the Miller Brothers helped popularize and that continues to influence American culture today.
