[ICAST 2025] Shimano Expands Premier Lever Drag Lineup – Talica 40IIA & 50IIA

Shimano is back at ICAST 2025 with two new additions to their flagship Talica A family of two-speed lever drag reels: the new Talica 40IIA and Talica 50IIA. The Tallica 40IIA, an entrant in the 2025 ICAST New Product Showcase, is a new model created in response to angler demand for a reel that bridges the gap between the 25 and 50 size Talica reels. These two new sizes of Talica A reels feature the Infinity Drive system at their core, resulting in a significantly easier reeling experience, up to 40% lighter rotation, even under heavy pressure from a large fish. While the Cross Carbon Drag on these two larger reels is now capable of producing 66 pounds of drag force. Now add in the low-gear ratio and redesigned handles, you essentially have an incredibly capable winch of a reel that can handle big fish with ease. Lastly, to keep these reels going for the long run, they come with X-Protect tech, which gives the reels a high level of water resistance in vital areas while not sacrificing the reel’s light gear feel. MSRP for the Talica 40IIA is set at $1119.99, and the Talica 50IIA is $1199.99. These new reels should be available for order this Fall.

Shimano Talica 40IIA & 50IIA Key Features

  • Infinity Drive – Drastically reduces rotational torque by up to 40%, constructing a reel that can actively wind under heavy loads.
  • X-Protect – By combining a water-repellent coating and a specially designed water-channeling labyrinth construction, X-Protect provides high-level water resistance without adding weight or sacrificing light rotor rotation.
  • HAGANE Body – A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to its stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler’s actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.
  • S-Compact Body – 6% smaller than previous generations, allows for all-day comfort in a powerful, rigid, and durable reel that still can be easily handled in your hands.
  • Cross Carbon Drag – Allows for a wider range of drag settings, enhanced drag washer durability, and the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.
  • Dual Drag Cam – For braided and monofilament line.
  • Bearings – 7
  • Gear Ratio – 4.1:1 (High), 1.7:1 (Low)
  • Line Retrieve Per Crank – 46″ (High), 19″ (Low)
