Ruger’s Latest Precision Rifle is a Rimfire

Precision rifles have taken the gun world by storm this past year. Virtually every rifle manufacturer has in their product line a bolt action rifle categorized as a precision rifle. These mostly come in a machined aluminum, steel, or alloy base frame, large bolt action, thin to medium barrels, and often a barrel muzzle threaded to accept a suppressor for hunting or sport shooting.
When the first Ruger Precision bolt gun came out it was chambered for the .308 Winchester and the 5.56. That offering expanded quickly to one other caliber. The “hot” item today is the 6.5 Creedmoor and nearly every precision rifle maker has this offering. These bolt guns are accurate, sturdy, and fun to shoot or hunt with. Most of them are fairly heavy and pricy.
Now, Ruger has leaped ahead again by offering their new Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifle. This design is a junior version of the full sized centerfire precision rifle. It has all the looks of an adult precision rifle but with rimfire sizing. The first thing you notice is the standard Ruger rimfire magazine hanging from the action.
The Ruger Precision Rimfire is a bolt action with an enlarged bolt handle for easy, firm and controlled action cycling. The one-piece chassis is molded from a glass-filled nylon for strength and stability. The highly adjustable buttstock assembly can be changed to fit the shooter with length of pull and a cheek comb rest. LOP can be adjusted from 12-15.5 inches. This rifle weighs in at 6.8 pounds.
The top of the receiver is fitted with a Picatinny scope base including a 30 MOA elevation for long(er) range shooting. The RPR has an adjustable trigger that can be set at 2.25 to 5 pounds as the shooter desires. The trigger adjustment wrench is stored in the buttstock for field or range access.
This bolt rimfire has an 18-inch barrel that is shrouded in a free floated M-LOK handguard that is made from anodized aluminum and finished in a hard black matte. MLOK slots are featured on all four sides of the handguard for total flexibility. The barrel is threaded to accept a suppressor and comes with a thread protector cover.
The RPR accepts all standard 10-22 rifle magazines and comes with one 15-round BX-15. Model 8401 comes with two 10 round BX-1 mags. Suggested retail is $529.00. See all the specs and details at www.ruger.com.
