Celestron Offers Odor-Free Electric Hand Warmers

It’s not a problem for everyone, but it is for many of us. My hands often get cold when I’m hunting. What to do about it? Well, there are a number of options, including one that I only recently learned about: electric hand warmers.

I have used the old fire-based hand warmer that takes smelly lighter fluid. The fuel stinks, which isn’t good when you’re hunting animals that can smell you, and they can be difficult to keep going. One time it will burn for hours, while the next time it might go out after five minutes.

Then we have air-activated warmers. These have saved me from misery in the past, but they can be problematic and stop creating warmth if you put them inside a glove, in a boot, or deep in a pocket where they can’t get fresh air.

Enter Celestron‘s electric hand warmers. They’re available in several different models and can even charge your smart phone! I got to see them at the 2015 SHOT Show, and I was impressed.

The Celestron Elements Thermocharge is a portable power pack and hand warmer that can stay warm for as long as 6 hours. But the real star of the line is the FireCel Plus.

The FireCel Plus is a portable power pack, LED flashlight (red and white), and a hand warmer. It has a USB-out port for charging stuff, comes with a USB cable for charging it, and includes a soft pouch. The battery capacity is 5200 mAh, and it can provide warmth for up to 12 hours.

I handled one at the SHOT Show, and it felt great. It has two heating elements, one on each side, and you can run one or both elements.

For hunters, the light could come in handy when going to and from your stand in the dark, around camp at night, or digging in your pack for gear. It even has a flashing SOS mode in case you need to use it to be found.

I’m hoping to have one of these in my pocket come turkey season.
