Clean Crook Showers and Shaves During Robbery of 94-Year-Old

94-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico resident Glen Miller was rudely awoken to find 43-year-old Rudy Chavez pointing a gun at him, according to charges subsequently filed against Chavez as reported in the Albuquerque Journal.
Chavez grabbed the old man by the arm as he toured Miller’s home looking for things to steal. He even chatted him up, saying he had recently gotten out of prison and hadn’t landed a job. At one point Chavez bruised the old fellow when he attempted to call police. And then, Chavez came clean.
Well, he got clean anyhow. He held Miller at gunpoint while he showered and shaved, then dressed himself in the other man’s clothes and left the scene in Miller’s care, along with the man’s television and some of his cash.
It was easy for police to determine who committed the crime via fingerprints left on a mouthwash bottle and shaver. Miller then identified Chavez via a photograph.
At the time of Chavez’s arrest a few days later, he was a suspect in another crime committed the same day as Miller’s robbery and had two outstanding felony warrants.
To me, this is a great illustration of how a criminal will obtain a gun no matter how illegal it is for him to do so. The laws prohibiting Chavez from owning a gun did not prevent him from getting one.
