Florida Shooting: Armed School Resource Officer Cowered Outside In Fear

Much has been made of the fact that there was an armed School Resource Officer (SRO) on-site at the high school in Parkland, Florida where a shooter just killed 17 kids, and that this failed to stop the attack. Well, now we know why: the SRO never once went inside the building and confronted the shooter; instead, he waited outside and let the attack continue.

Florida reporter Marc Caputo has the scoop on Twitter, along with some video of the sheriff admitting to this:

The armed school resource officer at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School responded to the shooting BUT NEVER WENT IN for “upward or 4 minutes” while the gunmen killed people, said Sheriff Scott Israel.

“Never went in” Sheriff said. Officer “clearly” could hear gunfire

Sheriff: “Devastated.Sick to my stomach. There are no words. These families lost their children. We lost coaches. I’ve been to the funerals. I’ve been to the homes where they sit in shiva. I’ve been to the vigils”

Sheriff Scott Israel said Officer Scott Peterson failed by waiting outside the Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS building for about 4 of 6 minutes while Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people

What should Peterson have done

Israel: “Went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer”

Here’s the Twitter thread:

This is, frankly, unbelievable. It was a system failure at every level, from the FBI to the local sherriff to the armed SRO onsite. Nobody did anything, and a disturbed teenager slaughtered innocents. But sure, blame the NRA.
