Toronto Mayor Asks Why Does Anyone Need to Have a Gun?

In the wake of a mass shooting in Toronto, Toronto Mayor John Tory called for more gun control. One of the things Mayor John Tory asked, “Why does anyone in this city need to have a gun at all?”
Most reasonable people know the answer as to why law abiding citizens should be armed, and that is to protect themselves from criminals.
On Sunday July 22, 2018, a gunman opened fire killing two people and injuring 13 more. The gunman was identified as Faisal Hussain, who was found dead. It is unclear if Faisal Hussain took his own life, or if he was killed during an exchange of gunfire with the police.
Even though Canada has very strict gun laws, gun control zealots called for even more gun control. It would seem as if enough gun control laws were passed, criminals may eventually start to obey the law.
This is what Toronto Mayor John Tory had to say about the shooting.
We should all be able to agree the shooting was an act of cowardly violence, just as Toronto Mayor John Tory stated. However, why disarm law abiding citizens?

Further, there is no such thing as Castle Doctrine or Stand Your Ground for justifiable homicide in Canada. No guarantee of a right to keep and bear arms. No concealed carry other than for narrow exceptions. The government basically said gun ownership is for target shooting and hunting only, with many types of guns popular in the U.S. highly restricted in the country

According to an article on the BBC, shootings in Toronto have more than doubled from 2014 – 2018.

Police data also shows the number of shootings in Toronto more than doubled between 2014 and 2017 – from 177 to 395.
Yet, the solution is more gun control?
It would appear Toronto’s approach to gun violence is the same as Detroit, Chicago, or Washington D.C., and that is pass more gun control laws.
A question to the choir, when will gun control zealots realize disarming law abiding citizens is not the solution?
Take Texas for example, after passing the concealed carry permit law, murders in Texas dropped the following year, and have continued to drop. The murder rate in Texas is now the lowest since the 1960s, which was when the records started. Compare that to Toronto which has more than doubled its murder rate in four years, 2014 – 2018.
It would appear Toronto is settings itself on the same path as the liberal controlled murder ravaged cities here in the United States.
