Springfield Armory’s TRP 10mm Pistol

Usually, if you’ve seen one semi-auto pistol you’ve seen them all, but that is not the case with this new 10mm Auto offering. Springfield Armory adds to its 1911 TRP line by installing a factory reflex sight mill-mounted into the rear of the slide. That makes this 10mm Auto pistol special.

SA’s TRP (Tactical Response Pistol) will come in two new models, one with a 5-inch barrel and the other with a 6-inch slide and tube for even more heft up front. These pistols will feature National Match frames and slides in a Black T finish. This finish will withstand tough use and outside conditions. The barrels are stainless steel and fully supported.

Exact specs are still coming out but the standard TRP with a 5-inch barrel will tip the scales at 40 ounces and have a height of 5.5 inches and overall length of 8.6 inches. The front strap and mainspring housing are checkered in Posi-Lock for a firm grip. The mag well has the TechWell System that permits rapid mag changes. These pistols will also have the Springfield Armory Gen 2 Speed Trigger for a 4.5-to-5-pound pull with a clean break. The safety will be ambidextrous. Grip panels will be G-10 VZ for a firm grasping surface.

The reflex sight chosen for these packages is the Trijicon Ruggedized Miniature Reflex. The Trijicon RMR mount features an integrated rear tritium sight. This setup allows for a lower 1/3 co-witness on the front tritium sight post, which is a heavy-duty raised blade for easy sight acquisition.

The Trijicon sight itself is made from 7075-T6 aluminum to mil-spec ratings. Its sight lens has a patented shape that can absorb the impacts of the 10mm Auto recoil and deflects the recoil stresses away from the lens and sight. This substantially increases the sight’s durability and reliability.

The 10mm can produce a fair amount of muzzle rise, muzzle blast, and recoil. It takes a proven set of optics to withstand that kind of shooting turbulence. Trijicon has a well-established reputation for producing high-quality optical products.

Though the 10mm Auto has a bit of a reputation for being a snappy round, it is entirely controllable with the weight of a pistol like the Springfield Armory TRP. That makes this tactical response pistol with the Trijicon RMR sight one slick package.
