6.5 Creedmoor: History, Development, Pros & Cons, 270 Win Comparison

Ron Spomer knows his stuff about guns and ammo, and if you are interested in the 6.5 Creedmoor at all, this video is worthwhile.

It’s interesting to know about the cartridge’s development and why it was made the way it’s made, and to explore all the reasons it became popular among the target shooters for whom it was developed. But the video’s title promises a comparison with the 270 Win, and you have to get pretty deep before that comes in.

Around the 12-13 minute mark, we get a promise of that. But alas, Ron wanders down a rabbit trail and starts talking about shoulder angles and all kinds of other trivia. Finally, around 15:30, we get to the point, which is that the 270 Win shoots flatter than the 6.5 CM.

The 6.5 does win in wind deflection, as well as recoil; his chart claims the 6.5 will kick only 75% as hard as a 270.

What do you think? Do you love or hate the 6.5 Creedmoor? I can’t say I love it, but I don’t hate it either. I just prefer to keep my deer hunting bullets .30 caliber and greater.

Hope you enjoy the video.
