POTD: Upgraded Sharps Model 1878 Borchardt Single Shot Rifle

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! This time around we have an upgraded Sharps rifle. The Sharps is an iconic piece of weaponry especially sought-after because of the film “Quigly Down Under.” What some people may not know is these rifles and others like it feature falling-block actions (like the infamous High Wall), and are great candidates to be re-barreled or re-chambered to different cartridges. This practice was as common back in the early 20th century as it is today. As stated by Rock Island Auction Company below, this one was fixed up for .219 Improved in the 1950s.

“Frame manufactured 1878-1881. According to consignor it is chambered in .219 Improved, customized by Apex Gun Works in 1950 with a Pfeiffer heavy barrel, and Monte Kennedy stock. With Unertl 14x scope.”
