POTD: Browning Arms High Power Pistol with Match Barrel
Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! The Browning Hi-Power is a highly influential gun in the 20th century. Although the 9mm pistol in the US did not come back into popularity until the 90s this pistol was the start of the wonder nines. This particular example sports a match barrel as well as some lovely gold inlay and engraving. Rock Island Auction Company goes more in-depth below on this particular pistol.
“This is a very rare early production Browning HP “GB” competition model with rare gold inlaid borders on each panel of the entire pistol and gold plated small parts. These pistols were manufactured around the 1987 time frame and not cataloged for sale in the U.S. by Browning Arms Company. These competition model pistol feature a fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight, a 6″ match barrel, with front counterweight, a serrated spur hammer, smooth trigger, and 13 round double stack magazine. This specific pistol has been fitted with extra fancy set of factory checkered two piece walnut grips. The sides of the slide have the standard Belgium address on one side and the Browning address on the other and the left side of the frame is marked “E.VOS – STYLING – BELGIUM”. As noted, the slide, frame, trigger guard and grip straps feature decorative gold inlaid bordering that are exceptionally well executed. The pistol is finished blue with a gold slide hold back, thumb safety, hammer, magazine release and trigger.”
