POTD: Scarce Remington Model 29 Expert E Grade Slide Action Shotgun

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! A light in an era of right-handed shotguns! The Remington Model 29 must have been a breath of fresh air when it hit the shelves in 1930 for all those left-handed folks that could afford it. That is the main issue anyway. Most people in the great depression just couldn’t afford this pleasant shotgun. Approximately 38,000 Remington Model 29 shotguns were manufactured between 1930 and 1933. They only used 2 inch 12 gauge shells and were offered in the following grades:
- 29A – Standard Grade
- 29B – Special Grade
- 29C – Trap Grade
- 29D – Tournament Grade
- 29E – Expert Grade (this one)
- 29F – Premier Grade
- 29R – Riot Grade
“Introduced in 1930 and discontinued in 1933, sales of the Model 29 were undermined by the Great Depression, making this a rare item in any state, let alone featuring the hand fitting and master engraving of the Remington Custom Shop. Single bead sight on the matte rib, with cylinder choke, Remington trademark on the operating rod and the three line address, model and patent markings on the left side of the barrel. Fine scroll engraving is visible at the breech, running up along the sides and forming a banner around the markings, with additional scrollwork on the operating rod and a wavy zig-zag border encircling the takedown hardware, flanked by scrolls. Bottom ejecting receiver, with scroll engraving, a small checkerboard pattern ahead of the trigger guard, a scene of a pointer in the woods on the left side and a hunting dog on a lakeshore on the right, along with hand engraved model markings and serial number on the underside. High grade walnut stock, with checkering on the forearm and pistol grip, Remington grip cap with Fleur-de-Lis designs, 14 1/2″ pull and a Kick-Eez recoil pad.”
