POTD: Austrian Pattern Custom Bullpup Winchester Model 70

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Although the true definition of Bullpup may be up for debate, it would be hard to argue that this is not at least a Bullpup style Model 70. This is an Austrian pattern Bullpup Winchester Model 70. It is unclear if this has an internal “blind magazine” or if it is a single-feed rifle. This sure looks awkward, but also comfortable in a way. Hard to go wrong with a good old Model 70.

“This is an Austrian pattern custom bull pup rifle that uses a Winchester Model 70 action and .225 caliber barrel. With the exception of the factory proofs, the barrel and receiver retain their original Winchester markings. The receiver features a full coverage oak leaf engraved pattern that extends to the breech end of the barrel that incorporates a checkered dot motif just behind the rear sight. The trigger guard also has the oak leaf engraving. The barrel also has ramp blade and raised adjustable notch sights. The trigger is serrated, the receiver is tapped for scope/sight mounting, and the bolt is jeweled. The nicely figured full length pistol grip stock is checkered and has carved oak leaf and acorn patterns, sling swivel studs, and a vented Pachmayr White Line recoil pad.”
