POTD: Better Than The ASP? – Devel Converted Smith & Wesson Model 39

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a really neat carry gun of the late 1970s and 1980s. This is a Devel converted Smith and Wesson Model 39-2. The Model 39 popped up in a world where there was very little in the way of 9mm compact handguns in the United States. It was very different compared to today. Much like the ASP (another custom Smith and Wesson) this custom work tried to cut down on weight, sharp edges, and be a more controllable package.

“Frame manufactured in 1977-1978. Fixed front sight highlighted with red paint and a fully adjustable rear sight. The left side of the frame is stamped “.057” after the S&W serial number. Bobbed hammer, shortened barrel, and fluted slide. There is a hook added to the trigger guard and the right side is trimmed for faster access to the trigger. Fitted with a set of smooth “DEVEL” marked grips with clear windows for viewing the magazine. Includes an extra magazine.”
