POTD: Not Quite Ideal… The Telescoping Ideal Stock/Leather Holster

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a 1906 Commercial Luger in 30 Luger. More importantly, this is a 1906 Luger with a telescoping Ideal stock/leather holster combo produced by the Ideal company. In the early days of autoloading pistols, they were sticking stocks on just about all of them. Many are being marketed as a do-all weapon for military contracts. The telescoping stock/leather holster combo was patented in 1901 just two years after production of the luger hit full swing. The Ideal company made these holster stock combos for many guns (specifically military revolvers. They attach via special grips that have metal inserts with special cuts. They were not successful most likely due to cost and the lack of shoulder comfort.
