While Northland Fishing Tackle wanted to wait till the Spring of 2024 to release the new Pitchin’ Puppet, the demand from anglers has pushed the release date forward to now. The new Pitchin’ Puppet is similar to other vertical glide jigging lures that are on the market, but they have taken angler use into consideration in the design. For years now anglers have been using these vertical jigging lures as casting lures with great success. The issue with others is that the front hook is very prone to snags when cast and worked near any sort of structure. The new Pitchin’ Puppet has been designed without that front hook so you don’t have to worry about snagging. The lead frame with resin over-mold body and fin gives the lure a great translucent baitfish profile that is very durable. Along with the absence of the front hook, the rear hook is a wide gap hook cast into the body. This makes the lure perfect for darting across the bottom to trigger strikes.
“I had glide baits in my ice fishing box and started playing with them in open-water pretty early on,” says Brosdahl. “They’ve put tons of fish in the boat for me and my clients over the years. However, the problem has always been that front nose hook, which tends to foul-hook as many fish as it catches, and frequently snags everything from rocks to wood to weeds. The original glide baits on the market were not designed for casting; they were designed for vertical jigging.”
