Three Prepping Topics For 2018
Kevin Felts 12.27.17

In a previous article, we talked about prepping goals for 2018. As with everything else in life, there is a difference between what we “need” and what we “want.” Just because a survivalist wants to achieve a certain goal, does not mean the goal is that important in their overall plans.
For example, let’s say someone wants to add an AR-15 to their preps in 2018. On the surface that may seem like a good idea, but not when they already have a dozen AR-15 rifles, and no water filters.
So for 2018, what important topics would round out your prepping plans?
For the sake of discussion, I am going to throw out a few things I want to cover in 2018.
Food Production
Goats: I want to add some goats to the farm. Why goats? Goats would play an important role in food production. They would help keep the underbrush chewed down and provide milk production. The milk would be consumed and made into cheese and butter.
In the grand scheme of things, cheese and butter could be used as barter items.
Also, goats are more ideal than cattle for butchering. My pit has a cooking surface that is six feet long. I could cook a whole goat at one time and very little would go to waste.
Fruit Trees: Really want to work on the fruit trees that are already planted and then plant a few more. Some of the ones I want to plant:
- Fig.
- Pear.
- Mayhaw.
- Blueberry.
All of those can be made into jelly, or eaten straight from the tree.
Sheds
There is a cabin on my property that has a water well. The problem is, the pump runs off electricity and the shed only covers the pump. For the pump to work off solar energy, a new shed has to be built that would be large enough to house the battery pack and other electrical parts.
I also need a shed next to my home. This would be a place to set up the reloading equipment and to keep tools close at hand.
Ammunition
2017 was a true buyers market; the likes of which we may not see again for a long time. Mid-term elections will be in November of 2018. If it looks like Democrats may gain power in congress, people may start panic buying.
Because of the mid-term elections, I may look at stockpiling ammo in 2018. As for full blown panic buying like what happened after the Sandy Hook shooting, I doubt anything will happen as long as President Trump is in office.
Final Thoughts
Those are some of the important topics I would like to cover in 2018.
