Fizan’s Compact 3 aluminum poles are my favorite hiking pole, bar none. In fact, it was my first review here on Alloutdoor.com! My poles average 152 g, while the advertised weight is 158 g. The Compact 4’s are definitely smaller, but at a weight cost of 11 g each (169 g).
From friends of mine who have hiked both the PCT and Appalachian Trail, they cite that the PCT is more enjoyable due to the scenery as well as the lack of constant up and down, up and down ridge running. (I’m looking at you, Pennsylvania!) Having a program that supports the maintenance and improvement of the trail is worth the purchase of these poles as they’re already great by themselves.
The Pacific Coast Trail nonprofit organization is a pretty valid organization according to several groups who monitor 503c activities. I grumble when thinking Liz Bergeron‘s total compensation of $123,176 in 2013 grew to $167, 143 total compensation in 2020 (last public tax filing). That’s a 36% increase when the national average went up 29% during that same time, but there are still trails being maintained and tracts of land being purchased to improve upon the current path.
