Field Use – Otterbox Waterproof Drybox 3250 Series

When it came to using this case out in the wild I have had this in my possession for over a year, and have deployed it multiple ways. Most frequently, I have been using it as a valuables container while traveling in a backpack. It was never “combating the elements” like moisture and rain as intended, but it ensured my cellphone, wallet, and keys never got crushed, exposed to sweaty/dirty laundry, and/or airport food spilled on them. All important when traveling.

A better example of a test occurred when my wife went on a kayaking trip with a friend down a winding Minnesota river for 4 1/2 hours. With plentiful switchbacks, bumps in the road, oxbow corners, boulders, and splashing of water, this was the real test as to whether or not the Otterbox Waterproof Drybox was actually waterproof.

Otterbox Waterproof Drybox 3250 Series

My wife, Andrea, exclaimed the biggest benefits were that it floated so you could pull it along side of you while kayaking if need be, and since it was not submerged (for extended periods of time) it still kept everything dry.

“This box was big enough for both phones and both sets of keys. It floated and it kept everything dry.”

– Andrea Scepaniak, my adventurous wife and lover of the outdoors

While some people might not intentionally tow or drag the Drybox alongside them, it is valuable that it floats so well and keeps moisture out in the event that you tip your kayak, canoe, stand-up paddleboard, [insert aquatic vessel here]. One area in which the Otterbox Waterproof Drybox could be improved is to make it in brighter, more fun colors. Then, in the event of a capsize or tipped vessel, you could more easily spot it floating while on a river, lake, or other body of water.

So, what are my final thoughts on the Otterbox Waterproof Drybox from their 3250 Series?… All in all, with all of my experiences of travel and my additional feedback from my adventurous, kayaking wife, this Drybox performed exactly as advertised. It kept the water out, our valuables dry, secure, and safe. At an affordable MSRP of $39.99, I firmly believe this Drybox is worth the asking price.
